Andrew Bevan, the finance and resources director of Dyfed-Powys Police, is to retire in October.
Mr. Bevan will also leave his role as chief finance officer to Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon and Chief Constable Simon Prince.
Mr. Bevan, aged 54, of Llandeilo, said: "I've enjoyed more than a decade at the police force, with the former police authority and with the PCC and now feel the time is right to retire.
"It has been an honour to serve within Dyfed-Powys Police and I will look back on my time with the Force with great fondness. When I retire in October, I will be leaving behind an excellent team of people; I wish each and every one of them every success for the future."
Mr. Salmon said: "I wish Andrew all the best for a happy and healthy retirement; he has served policing in this area with great expertise and diligence."
Mr. Prince said: "Andrew leaves with a great deal of affection and gratitude for all that he has achieved. I thank him for his efforts in policing support across Dyfed-Powys and for his knowledge and professionalism."
A qualified accountant, Mr. Bevan has worked as finance and resources director for Dyfed-Powys Police since 2001. Before that, he worked with Welsh Water and Swansea University and at director level in the NHS and further education.
Whilst with Dyfed-Powys Police, he undertook a two-year secondment as programme director for police collaboration across Wales and was finance lead in a project established to oversee the abandoned merger of the four forces of Wales into one service.
He is vice-president of the Police Treasurers Society and is a member of the Welsh Government's Efficiency and Innovation Procurement Board. He is secretary to the Association of Chief Police Officers' procurement portfolio and a member of CIPFA's police panel.
As chief finance officer of the commissioner and of the chief constable, Mr. Bevan is responsible for financial administration under the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011. This includes safeguarding lawfulness and propriety in expenditure.
An announcement on future plans to fulfil his duties will be made shortly.
