Seventy calls have now been made to Crimestoppers by members of the public in Dyfed and Powys since the launch of the Rat on a Rat campaign on September 22, and many other people have contacted their local police direct.

Chief Inspector Mike Donovan said: "We have been delighted by the support of the public for the campaign. It shows how all our communities are sending out the message that drug dealers are not welcome amongst us and that we are all going to work together so that the dealers either stop their evil trade or they will be arrested. We are determined to continue this campaign and I would appeal to the public to keep 'phoning in."

"As a result of all the sources of information that we have received, 180 people have been arrested since September 22 for drug related offences within Dyfed-Powys. We have seized heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, amphetamines, temazepam, benzodiazepines and cannabis, including a cannabis plantation that was being grown under artificial lights.

"Some of the most significant seizures have involved ecstasy. There was a seizure of almost a 1,000 ecstasy tablets in Pembrokeshire in October, a seizure of 700 ecstasy tablets in Llanelli in November and our officers worked with officers from South Wales Police and the Regional Task Force to seize 15,000 ecstasy tablets as well as other drugs at Swansea within the last few weeks. The value of the drugs seized on that occasion was in excess of £250,000. We need to continue this momentum with the help of the public."

To safeguard your community give information on drug dealers either to your local police or by telephoning Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
