Police are cracking down on 'boy racers' in Tenby. And after targeting one area of the town, two teenage motorists were issued with endorsable fixed penalty tickets for driving in excess of the 30 mph speed limit. The youths were caught speeding in the town's Park Road by officers over the weekend. Said police sergeant Gary Jones: "Two local police officers have recently been trained to use the hand-held radar device to monitor the speed of vehicles within the Tenby police section. "We have received several complaints concerning the manner of driving of local youths who congregate at Tenby's multi-storey car park and then proceed to drive off in convoy at speed around the streets of the town. "Such manner of driving will not be tolerated and officers will continue to target those involved on a regular basis." PS Jones warned that young drivers are especially oblivious to the fact that if they accumulate six or more penalty points in the first two years after passing their test, they will automatically have their full driving licence entitlement withdrawn by the DVLA. "The driver will then revert back to provisional status with a requirement to sit their driving test again," said PS Jones. "The consequence for young drivers who fall foul of this ruling so often results in an extortionate increase of insurance premiums," the officer added. FOOTNOTE: Police revealed this week, that since launching a purge on illegal parking in Tenby last month, 54 motorists have been issued with fixed penalty tickets for contravening parking regulations. "Despite high publicity about the campaign, people are continuing to park in the narrow streets," said a police spokesman. "We will be continuing to enforce the regulations, particularly in St. Julian Street, St. Mary's Street and Cresswell Street."
