Over 170 items of alcohol have been seized and details of over 100 youths taken by Neighbourhood Policing Teams in Pembrokeshire during a two- week campaign. Underage drinking is often the cause of complaint by residents as it leads to anti-social behaviour. Police officers and PCSOs over the last three weekends have targeted hotspots where youths congregate and have confiscated alcohol as part of a Government campaign. In total they confiscated: 71 cans of lager, four bottles of wine, 44 bottles of lager, 10 bottles of cider, 26 cans of cider, one bottle of Baileys, 12 bottles of vodka, one bottle of home brew, two bottles of Mickey Fin, one can of special brew, and two bottles of alcohol mix (home-made). Over 110 young people had their names and addresses taken, with their information being passed onto the anti-social behaviour co- ordinators. Twelve young people were also returned home to their parents. One person over the age of 18 was reported for supplying alcohol to underage people and further enquiries are taking place to establish where the young people got the alcohol from. The youths were also spoken to and verbally warned of the dangers associated with drinking in public, including how it affects their health and personal safety. Health warning cards are also being handed out to these youths. Over the next few weeks, schools throughout the area will be visited to continue the education work surrounding alcohol. Superintendent Euros Lewis said: "The amount of alcohol seized is concerning; these young people are obviously getting the alcohol from somewhere and along with Trading Standards we will target premises which break the law. "However, parents also need to take responsibility and we appeal to them not to give alcohol to their young people. "It can affect their health, put them in danger and potentially result in a criminal record. "The law regarding underage drinking is there for a reason. "The neighbourhood policing teams will continue to tackle this issue which is of great concern to us."
