Police say they are monitoring plans to hold an organised protest that aims to disrupt the Ironman Wales event in and around Tenby this Sunday. A flyer which has been circulated in the area warns of a plan to 'totally disrupt' the sporting event, in protest against a lack of support from Pembrokeshire County Council's social services. 'The rest of the UK needs to see how social services in Pembrokeshire treat victims of abuse' reads the flyer, which refers to the protest as 'Operation Lightning'. 'Been left feeling a victim by their actions or had your situation made worse by their incompetence? To Pembrokeshire County Council - if the thunder doesn't get you, the Lightning will' states the flyer, stating that a slow moving convoy or groups aim to disrupt the event route. Dyfed Powys Police have stated that they, along with Pembrokeshire County Council and the organisers of Ironman, have been made aware of the potential protest, which has also been circulated on social media. "Police have met with an individual linked to the protest to discuss their plans," said a police spokesperson. "Appropriate measures are in place to ensure the safety of both participants and spectators," they added.
