Police are investigating a 'despicable' act of vandalism and burglary, just days after Hallowe'en. A popular fruit and vegetable shop in Kilgetty was the target of a shocking attack in the early hours of last Friday morning. Intruders are believed to have smashed their way through the front door of Four Seasons, Carmarthen Road, at approximately 1 am. They destroyed the fruit and vegetable displays and stole three charity collection boxes, including one for the Poppy Appeal, little more than a week before Remembrance Sunday. The other two taken were for the Paul Sartori Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support. Around 15 bunches of flowers were also ripped apart, while flour and eggs were broken and strewn around both inside the premises and out on the pavement, before being discarded in a nearby field. Eggs were also thrown at properties opposite the shop. "It really is a despicable act," said PC Kelvin Lewis, the officer investigating the incident. "It is absolutely disgraceful for this to happen in a small community and very upsetting," he continued. "To commit this burglary at a shop owned by a local family and steal the charity boxes, including the Poppy Appeal collection, just days before Remembrance Day, is an awful act." Owner of Four Seasons, Hugh Scale, said the incident had been very distressing and frightening for everybody, particularly the elderly residents of the community. "It has caused a lot of upset," he stated. Officers are now appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity to contact them. "From the damage that was caused, those responsible must have been in the shop for quite a time, so perhaps someone passing may have seen something," added PC Lewis. Anyone who can help police with their inquiries, is asked to contact PC Lewis at Tenby police station on 0845 330 2000.
