Chairman of the Pembrokeshire branch of the Normandy Veterans Association, Gordon Prime, of Jameston, visited Gloucestershire recently to pay tribute to his friend who died in the Second World War.
Herbert Stinchcombe, who was raised in Hawkesbury Upton Royal, was a dispatch rider with Mr. Prime in the Royal Army Service Corps and together they fought in the Normandy landings. Sadly though, Mr. Stinchcombe was killed just 10 days before the end of the war 60 years ago.
For the past 10 years, Mr. Prime has been visiting Hawkesbury Upton Royal to pay his respects to his friend.
A service was held recently at the war memorial in his home village by Mr. Prime, who was accompanied by members of Tenby Royal British Legion and the Normandy Veterans Association. Members of the Hawkesbury Upton Royal British Legion were also in attendance.
