Well done to local plumber Peter Kidney who took on an around Caldey swim from Tenby today, raising a magnificent amount for Prostate Cymru in the process.

Peter from Manorbier set off from Castle Beach at 10.30 am this morning (Saturday, August 27), swimming 3 miles out from the shoreline, 2 miles round the back of Caldey Island; and 3 miles back to the beach in Tenby.

On ending the challenge, he was greeted by friends, family, supporters, as well as representatives from his chosen charity, which he has raised £2,445 for so far.

Ahead of the swim, Peter explained that back in February of 2021, he discovered that he had Prostate Cancer himself, and underwent an operation at The Heath, before returning to work within six weeks.

“Thank god my wife forced me to visit the GP because of constant urinary tract infection as it quite possibly saved my life! So I am completing this swim to help raise both funds and awareness for the amazing Prostate Cymru charity.

“In order to complete the challenge I will be swimming 3 miles out from Tenby, 2 miles round the back of Caldey Island, and 3 miles back to shore, starting and finishing at Castle Beach which overlooks the Fort,” he added.
