Sir,
My husband is currently a client at Brooklands Nursing Home and is suffering from dementia. I understand that all the clients at Brooklands are dementia sufferers. A feature of this disease is the fear of change and loud noises. Both these things will be manifest if this scheme goes ahead.
I use the recycling centre in Tenby regularly and I know how noisy and busy it is. On my last visit there, there were three very large vans and the drivers were disposing of huge amounts of my small amount of household waste. I was only there for something like 20 minutes in all and the noise was constant. I expect that it will continue in this way all day every day.
The owners of Brooklands have recently finished a garden at the rear of the building for the use of patients and their families. At the moment, this area is an oasis of calm and a safe, secure outdoor environment. If the plans for a recycling centre go ahead, this will effectively close the area to clients. There will be a constant stream of vehicles and regular collections employing large industrial movers. There will be an increase in noise and pollution, not to mention the presence of seagulls, rats, flies and their attendant nuisance.
Please will the powers that are in control think again about the suitability of this site.
Tina Torkington,
Tenby.
