Sir,
I am writing about a concert which will take place at Greenhill School on Monday, September 22, as part of the Tenby Arts Festival. If you are a visitor to Tenby or if you are not in the habit of reading the 'Greenhill News' section of this newspaper, then you may never have seen the Greenhill Orchestra in concert. You are indeed missing something truly special!
A visit to see this remarkable group of over 100 young musicians perform will confirm that they are no ordinary school orchestra. Recently returned from a successful tour to Prague, they will play music from the repertoire performed on that visit. This they will do under the baton of Mr. Paul Rapi, runner-up in the nationwide 'Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards' last year.
The sheer dedication of these talented students never ceases to amaze. They have won in their class at the Urdd Eisteddfod for the last two years and have received Highly Commended Awards at the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
The Supporters of Greenhil Orchestra (SOGO) operate a 'Sponsor a Desk' scheme for any individual or organisation wanting to contribute towards the equipment needed by such a large orchestra. If you would like to help by making an annual contribution of £25, please contact the secretary, Mrs. Appley-Jones, on (01834) 812608. Meanwhile, please support these talented students in their musical enterprise by going to the concert, you won't be disappointed!
