Sir,

Further to Mr. Ivor Jenkins' letter in last week's Observer 'We are being conned', the answer must be yes, but exactly who is conning the people of south-east Pembrokeshire? Is it the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG), or is it the new Pembrokeshire Health Board, or perhaps it's both.

I thought the idea of WAG was to see a better and enhanced quality of life for the people who live in Wales under the assembly, but it appears that we're now making a retrograde step and going back in time, and will have to cope with less healthcare facilities in this part of Pembrokeshire.

I personally did not vote for the creation of a Welsh Assembly, believing it to be just another bureaucratic ideology with no real power. However, I did vote in the last election, having accepted that democracy had now prevailed by the people of Wales who obviously saw a better future for Wales under the assembly.

What now alarms me is the fact that the new Pembrokeshire Health Board has decided that it is not in favour of supporting the need for inpatient bed facilities at the new proposed Tenby Hospital (if we're lucky). So just who is governing this part of Pembrokeshire? It surely cannot be WAG, it would seem the Pembrokeshire Health Board, who are a non-elected body of people who are not accountable to anyone, other than themselves.

Therefore, I must have been right in the first place by not voting for the creation of the Welsh Assembly. If I am to be proven wrong, would our health minister, Jane Hutt, please stand up and prove to people like me that WAG is not a toothless and worthless organisation and can maintain and enhance a better quality of life for the people in this part of Pembrokeshire, by insisting that Pembrokeshire Health Board honours its commitment to the people in and around Tenby and provides healthcare facilities that they justly deserve.
