Tenby Town Council's long running saga to redevelop a local children's play park looks finally set to get the go-ahead, as Pembrokeshire County Council has granted funds for the scheme.

The town council's application to the 'Capital Play Fund' for financial assistance in developing the toddler play area at Jubilee Gardens, which overlooks the South Beach, was discussed at a meeting of county council's cabinet on Monday.

Due to the position and nature of the proposed play area, considerable time had been spent exploring alternative options, a report into the application said, also stating that the project had strong community support.

Over the past few years, local councillors have become increasingly frustrated with their attempts to redevelop the toddler park, with the county council also suggesting that an area at Battery Gardens could be better suited to a development as an alternative option, against the wishes of the town council.

The cost of the Jubilee Gardens project comes in at £34,583, with members of the cabinet agreeing that Tenby Town Council be awarded a grant of £17,291.50 from the Capital Play Fund.

It was also agreed that the town council would enter into a lease of the area, and that should the play area have to move location during the life of the play equipment, they woulod take full financial responsibility for the movement of the toddler area to any specified new site.
