Calls for members of the community in Narberth to get involved with saving the town's play areas were made by a town councillor last week.
Fears that members of the public were unaware that Pembrokeshire County Council had abdicated responsibility for play areas, led to Clr. Malcolm Connah bringing the matter to the attention of fellow councillors at a previous meeting when he wondered if they should take on the responsibility.
When the matter was brought up as an agenda item at the council's meeting last Tuesday, Clr. Connah explained that once play areas fell into disrepair, the county council would no longer continue to maintain them. However, funding was available for town and community councils to take over the responsibility.
As a result, Clr. Connah felt that members of the community would want to get involved in saving the play areas and councillors agreed that the matter should be put as an agenda item for a forthcoming community liaison meeting with the county council.
