An award-winning play, The 56, based on the events of the Bradford City football stadium fire will visit the Torch Theatre next Wednesday, November 23.

At 3.40 pm on May 11, 1985, a small fire broke out in the main stand at Valley Parade football ground during the last game of the season. Within four minutes, the wooden structure was ablaze.

Adapted solely from over 60 real-life testimonies, this bold and pertinent piece of documentary theatre from Lung Theatre pays homage to the supporters who lost their lives in one of the darkest days in British footballing history. On the 31st anniversary of the disaster, The 56 examines the solidarity, strength and community in the face of overwhelming tragedy.

Produced by Lung Theatre and developed with The Lowry and The Civic in Barnsley, The 56 has won multiple awards, including the Directors’ Guild Award for Best Newcomer, the Spotlight Award for Most Promising Actress and the Judges Award for Best Ensemble (NSDF). The play was also shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award.

A share of the profits from The 56 will be donated to the University of Bradford Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit.

Pembrokeshire audiences will be able to see The 56 at the Torch Theatre on Wednesday, November 23, at 7.45 pm. Tickets can be booked on the website www.torchtheatre.co.uk or from the Box Office on 01646 695267.Party, The Little Shop of Horrors and An Inspector Calls.www.torchtheatre.co.uk
