Sir,
Henry VII, Lord Nelson, Charles Norris, Beatrix Potter and Augustus John are all fondly remembered in Tenby and there are plaques erected upon buildings connected with them. We are now about 70 years beyond the time when the town gave sanctuary to Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia 1930-6 and 1941-74.
Forced to flee fascist forces, he lived in Tenby and Caldey for a time before being restored to his throne in 1941.
Older members will surely have stories to tell of seeing or meeting with him. One tale, which may be apocryphal, is of him exercising his cheetah on the South Beach!
In the 1960s, his stature was further enhanced when he helped establish the Organisation of African Unity.
Any chance of a plaque to remind future generations of this distinguished resident?
