Plans for an impressive eco-leisure facility in South Pembrokeshire have gone on show this week. Invited guests were able to view the plans for the layout of the proposed state-of-the-art environmentally-friendly development at Kilgetty on Tuesday night, and also ask questions of the architects, Acanthus Holden, of Pembroke. It is proposed to build the eco-leisure facility on land purchased by Kilgetty Begelly Community Council which lies between Carmarthen Road and the A477. The construction would conform to the most up- to-date ecological and environmental specifications, with underground heat pumps, 'grey' circulating water for toilet use, solar panels and green roofing. It is also hoped that a wind turbine could be erected to supply the remaining power needed. The main hall, suitable for many social and sports activities, including cricket nets and five-a-side football, would incorporate a climbing wall, usable indoors or out. Meeting rooms of various sizes would surround the hall, with a cafe at one end and a wet room at the other. This would be used by schools and groups in conjunction with the nature walk and ponds to be developed on the Common Land across the access road. A skateboarding area would be provided beyond the building, while a running track would skirt the boundaries. The whole site would be suitably landscaped and would include the community garden. Next Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, the plans will be on display in the main hall at the community centre to enable residents to examine them. The centre will be open from 10 am until 4 pm each day, with a member of Begelly Kilgetty Community Association on hand to answer queries. Posters advertising the event are displayed throughout the village, and flyers have been delivered to every household. It is hoped that there will be considerable interest in viewing the plans of the new building which will be to the great enhancement of Begelly, Kilgetty and the surrounding area.
