More than 100 athletes were in Neyland last September to take part in two spectacular sporting events - Wales' first quadrathlon, a gruelling event with legs in swimming, cycling, kayaking and running, and a challenge event for teams of four competing in cycling, longboat rowing and running. Seventeen teams from Pembrokeshire and other Welsh counties signed up for the team challenge, while the quadrathlon attracted 19 competitors from across the UK. The events raised funds for Welsh Sailing Venture and Parents Action Group (PAG). The Texaco/Chevron Pembrokeshire Team Challenge and Quadrathlon were organised by a team from Pembrokeshire sports clubs - Pembrokeshire Harriers, Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club, Neyland Rowing Club and Neyland Yacht Club - with support from rural community development organisation PLANED through the EU LEADER+ funded Experience Pembrokeshire's Waterway project. The organisers are busily planning this year's challenge, which will take place on Saturday, September 1. The events will kick-off at 9 am, with all races starting and finishing in Neyland. The events will be raising funds for Parent Action Group and Welsh Sailing Venture again. "Chevron agreed to sponsor this year's events, and we are most grateful for their support", said Martin Dyde, a member of the organising team. "We are hoping to raise more funds for the nominated charities this year and certainly hoping for better weather, which proved to be the most challenging aspect of last year's events," he added. Entry forms and further details will be available online at http://www.p-t-c.orangehome.co.uk">www.p-t-c.orangehome.co.uk or from Martin Dyde on (01646) 684059 or Kate Lindley on (01834) 862109. Event organisers can provide details of local longboat rowing clubs for athletes wishing to learn and train in this discipline.
