Plans are to be put in place to light a beacon on Tenby’s Castle Hill to mark the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings.

At a meeting of Tenby Town Council this month, councillors heard that His Majesty, the King, had decided against beacon lighting to mark his coronation last year.

King Charles has instead asked if a national chain of beacons could be lit at 9.15 pm on June 6 this year to mark the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord – the invasion of Normandy.

Members of the council recalled that they held a beacon lighting ceremony on Castle Hill to mark the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and agreed to start making preparations to hold something similar on June 6.
