Plans to provide a skateboard and BMX park for Tenby moved a step closer this week when local skateboard enthusiasts met with representatives of Tenby Town Council, Pembrokeshire County Council, Tenby 2020 and the Rotary Club of Tenby.

The idea of a skateboard park, which can also be used by BMXers, has been mooted for a number of years.

Much of the initial work has been done by Tenby 2020, with the Rotary Club of Tenby becoming involved in the project last year.

The meeting was informed that a site on The Salterns has been identified as a suitable location for the facility, and costings have been drawn up.

"The next step is to form a Skateboard Club which will enable us to gain access to grant aid to provide the facility," explained Clr. Mike Evans, who called the progress meeting after being approached by local skateboarders.

"We know that all those involved in skateboarding, both the youth of the town and the young at heart, want this facility. They know that people are concerned about them using our streets for skateboarding; the next step is for them to demonstrate that enthusiasm for their own skate park by forming a club in Tenby," he continued.

"To this end we have called a special public meeting in the De Valence next Wednesday evening at 7 pm to gauge the enthusiasm and support for such a facility. All the local organisations involved will be present to outline how far we have gone down the road to providing a facility and we invite everyone who has an interest in progressing this scheme to come along to the meeting."
