Plans for a 'major overhaul' of St. Julian's Church on Tenby Harbour to make the facility 'fit for the 21st century' are currently on display in the town.

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) in Tenby unanimously agreed back in 2012 to support a proposal to re-order St. Julians as a Youth Church and an exhibition of stills of the proposed plans, designed by James Dwyer Associates, of Saundersfoot, is currently on show at St. Mary's Church in High Street

"There is no water there, there are no facilities or conveniences, no disabled access; the heating system, such as it was, is now pretty well defunct, the lighting is poor, and as a last straw, at the end of 2013 the electrical system there was condemned - so at a very basic level, St. Julian's is in need of major renovation and modernisation," said Rector of Tenby, Canon Andrew Davies, of the proposals.

"For some considerable time, too, it has not attracted a regular worshipping congregation, and the Summer Spectaculars have not helped.

"I remember, a couple of years ago, leading a service there, and having to compete with Bonnie Tyler's voice all over the Harbour singing something about a hero!" continued Canon Davies, who said that he believed passionately in the future ministry of St. Julian's and that it must not be allowed to lapse into becoming a museum piece for nostalgia, and remain a living and vital focus for God's worship and praise.

"St. Julian's has served our local community well for over a century, and we must make sure that that ministry continues for another century.

"St. Julian's is not to be just a 'Youth Church' and definitely not a 'Youth Club' - it is to be a church for all, fit for the 21st century, and above all a fit offering to God," he added.

With the Parochial Church Council now being able to display their plans for St. Julian's in St. Mary's, all are welcome to view the proposals, which will be on show until Friday, March 21.

"The plans are just a snapshot of the interior and exterior and all are welcome to come and explore the future of St. Julian's, while there will also be an opportunity for people to comment on what they see by filling out a comments form," said team vicar, Rev. Robb Wainwright.
