One of Saundersfoot’s county councillors has been provided with a ‘productive’ update on how a new housing development at Sandy Hill is progressing,
Persimmon Homes West Wales secured planning permission to build 72 new homes on land at Sandy Hill last year with members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s development management committee approving the application.
The scheme includes a mix of one to four-bed detached and semi-detached homes, as well as terraced houses and apartments that will help meet local housing needs and open the door to home ownership for more local families.
Developers have said that the scheme boasts a number of proposed community benefits, including an equipped play area at the heart of the site, contributions to highway and active travel upgrades, and a dedicated active travel link that connects the site back to Sandy Hill Road.
Cllr Chris Williams said that he recently visited the development to meet with site manager, Tom Dennis.
“We had a productive catch-up on how the development is progressing, including rapid progress on the show home,“ he said.
“We discussed a number of points that have been raised by residents, including the active travel link planned through the site. This link is intended to offer a safer walking route in and out of the village — a welcome addition to the local infrastructure.
Cllr Williams said that the following update on current works were provided:
• Groundworks have recently focused on road formation across the site.
• The show home is progressing well, with external construction nearly complete and rendering due soon.
• Internal works are at the second-fix stage, with decorating to begin shortly.
• The sales office is also coming together quickly.
“Once a confirmed opening date for the show home is available, I’ll make sure to share it with the community,” continued Cllr Williams.
“In addition, Persimmon has been busy upgrading the water main through the site. There will be some minor disruption when the switchover from the old to the new main takes place.

“Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water anticipates completing this work during late evening hours to minimise impact on local residents. I’ll notify everyone as soon as a confirmed date is provided.
“There was a brief issue with mud on the road, but Persimmon responded quickly, deploying a sweeper to clean the affected area.
“We also previously discussed installing a notice board. This will be put in place once the site entrance is fully formed.
“Details about the show home and other available properties will be released soon by the Persimmon sales team, with key dates expected to be confirmed over the summer.
“If anyone has specific concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me — I’m happy to follow up and get answers where needed.
“Lastly, Tom and his team were moved by the community’s swift online response following the recent tragic incident at The Strand. They wanted to share that a defibrillator is now available on-site, which will soon be registered on ‘The Circuit’ and available during working hours,” he added.
