The start of the re-development of the ‘Coal Office’ building next to Saundersfoot harbour got underway this week.
An application to re-develop the building into a visitor centre along with shop units as part of the seaside village’s regeneration of the harbour area was approved last year by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park’s development management committee.
The plans submitted by the Saundersfoot Harbour Commissioners is for the change of use of the existing building located on Cambrian Terrace, including internal alterations and demolition of existing single storey extension (western and northern elevations) and gate hut, came before members of the
Work will see the building of Ocean Square Heritage, Interpretation and welcome Centre, which will include an All-Weather Covered Plaza, Events Area and Commercial Units.
This will provide visitors to Saundersfoot information about the history of the coal mining industry in the area.
