A resident has voiced her support for a new bypass ahead of a public inquiry which is due to take place.

Plans have been drawn up for a new bypass scheme for the village of Llanddewi Velfrey and the resident has been drumming up support.

Proposals include a new 4.3km section of action of road, this would provide two lanes in one direction and one lane in the other direction.

The scheme would start at the Pemblewin roundabout which would be enlarged to accommodate the increased volume of traffic.

It would then end with a new roundabout being constructed near Bethel Chapel.

The resident who did not wish to be named, but is from the village, said: “We as a village have been fighting for many years to get something done about the terrible traffic situation in our village.

“The A40 divides the village in two, it is too unsafe for people to cross in the normal way.

“Their is a 40 mph speed limit, but many vehicles including large lorries do not stick to that limit. ”

She also described just how tough the battle has been.

“The fight has been long, it’s been hard, we are really hoping for a positive outcome this time around.

“We’ve got a petition that we’ve put together, we have sent other paperwork about previous meetings and decisions regarding this bypass to the inspectors and we are hopeful it will be given the go-ahead this time.”

Back in the 2010s, the project to build the bypass was due to get underway.

However, the whole scheme was put on hold when Carillion, the company that builds new infrastructure, went bankrupt.
