Plans to site 20 shipping/storage containers alongside Pembrokeshire County Council’s civic amenity site on the outskirts of Tenby, Saundersfoot and New Hedges, have been backed by local councillors.

The planning application (22/1206/PA) for containers (to be used as storage hire), boundary fencing and associated works on a previously brownfield site adjacent directly West of the Crane Cross Waste and Recycling Centre on Devonshire Drive came before members of Saundersfoot Community Council at their most recent meeting.

The brownfield site was previously developed as an oil waste transfer station and has been owned by the applicant, Mr Hart for several years.

The applicant wishes to utilise the land with a new business venture of a private storage facility in the form of shipping containers.

The storage will be aimed at private individuals and businesses around the Saundersfoot, Pentlepoir, Tenby and Kilgetty settlements such as:

• Retail units who require storage for stock

• Business such as tradesmen to store materials & equipment

• Online business who requires stock storage

• Builders – storage for tools, equipment

• Private individuals

• Temporary storage for house moves etc

• Furniture storage

There is a private section/ yard for the applicant to use for equipment to maintain the site and welfare facilities for when working/maintaining the site.

The applicant has conducted his own market research and realises there are other similar storage facilities in Tenby (near to LBS Builders merchants) and a facility in Templeton and at Carew.

Crane Cross storage
The proposals would be a vast improvement to the site which has become untidy and overgrown as it is not currently occupied or maintained. (PCC planning)

These storage facilities are popular and area near to or at full capacity which shows a demand for storage.

The planning authority has heard that the site is situated in a good location, as it can be accessed 24/7 without disrupting residential properties or impacting on amenity.

Following consideration of all the information provided by the Planning Authority, members of the Community Council did not raise any concerns or suggested objections regarding this planning application.

Councillors agreed that the proposed plans will give purpose to the area of currently unused land.
