Members of Kilgetty and Begelly Community Council have objected to fresh proposals for the Heritage Park at Stepaside, put forward to the Local Authority.

At the recent meeting of the Community Council, the application (reference 20/0462/PA) for the installation of bases for the siting of holiday lodges (which fall under the definition of a caravan), spa facility, holiday apartments, cafe and cycle hire, an equestrian stables, manege and associated office, main park office, car and cycle parking, residential garages, landscaping, access, retaining walls, foul and surface water drainage, related infrastructure and engineering works, at the Heritage Park was discussed.

Following consideration of all the information provided by the Planning Authority, Cllr Whitby proposed that Kilgetty Begelly Community Council object to the application as per objection previously submitted.

Cllr Quigley seconded the proposal, with the majority of councillors in agreement.

The latest plans for the Stepaside holiday park extension weree submitted in May after a High Court judgement overturned a Pembrokeshire County Council approval against repeated officer recommendations for refusal.

In late 2023 councillors approved a contentious application by Heritage Leisure Development (Wales) Ltd for works including the installation of 48 bases for holiday lodges, a spa facility at a former pub, holiday apartments, a café and cycle hire, equestrian stables, a manège and an associated office at Heritage Park, Pleasant Valley/Stepaside.

The final decision was made at full council after members of the planning committee had twice supported the scheme against officer recommendations of refusal, based on the Local Development Plan, included the site being outside a settlement area.

Amroth Community Council has once again objected; with councillors proposing the scheme be ‘called in’ for decision by Welsh Government organisation Planning and Environment Decisions Wales.

The latest application will be considered by Pembrokeshire County Council planners at a later date.
