Morrisons in Haverfordwest is set to expand its fuel station with new EV charging and facilities after receiving approval for the proposals from the Local Authority

Plans to expand Haverfordwest’s Morrisons fuel station site were given the go-ahead at a recent meeting of the county’s planning committee.

In an application to Pembrokeshire County Council, St Albans-based Motor Fuel Group, through agent CarneySweeney, sought permission for an extension to the existing petrol filling station sales building at Morrisons, Bridge Meadow Lane, Haverfordwest, together with the creation of an EV charging zone, sub-station, LV panel, bin store, four jet wash bays and associated works.

A supporting statement said: “The application site is located within the urban area of Haverfordwest and comprises an existing Morrisons petrol filling station and customer park for the adjacent Morrisons supermarket.

“The site comprises the existing areas of hardstanding that form part of the existing customer car park and petrol filling station. Some trees are located within the application site, in closest proximity to the Electric Vehicle Charging Zone and Jet washing facilities.

“Three trees are proposed for removal. Replacement tree planting is proposed to mitigate the loss of trees. Beyond the site, existing trees and hedgerows are located on the periphery of the site to the east of the retail extension and to the south of the Electric Vehicle charging Zone. These areas are not proposed to be affected by the proposals.

“Due to the site comprising entirely of areas of existing hard surfaces, the site is considered to be of low value, with few features supporting biodiversity within the site. Bridge Meadow Park is located to the west, beyond the site boundary that is composed of dense tree cover and the Western Cleddau River.”

A council highways officer report in response to the scheme said: “The installation of the substation, EV charging point and jet wash will remove 30 parking bays within the carpark, six EV bays will be created from the proposal.

“There are four retail shops within Bridge Meadow Retail Park, with extensive onsite parking provision, the net loss of 24 standard parking spaces within the site overall is unlikely to have a detrimental impact on the onsite parking provision.

“The most likely impact of the proposed development will be keenly felt in the area during construction period as such, a Construction Traffic Management Plan will be required.”

The application was conditionally approved by officers.
