Plans for a revamp of Tenby’s Battery Gardens have been given the go-ahead by local councillors.

At the last meeting of Tenby Town Council, councillors viewed a ‘photomontage’ of the proposed project by Pembrokeshire County Council landscape architect Dai Rees, with a design showing a ‘Gorsedd’ style stone circle placed in the middle of the gardens.

Councillors though had mixed feelings over the stones design, even though it had been suggested by Mr. Rees that they could be laid flat to avoid small children wanting to climb them.

“It’s just as well that there were no health and safety officers around during the time of Stonehenge!” joked Clr. Laurence Blackhall.

The town clerk, told members that he had spoken to the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, on the proposals which had been discussed by the town’s ‘regeneration team’, and that she wasn’t that “precious over the stones” aspect, but hoped that councillors would back the other proposals for improvements to seating, benches, grass areas and pathways at the gardens.

Councillors gave their backing to the project which has been touted as costing £20,000.
