The National Park car park at Broad Haven will be upgraded following approval of authority plans.
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority submitted plans to upgrade the large car park off the main road entry into the seaside village include improving the parking layout, disabled parking and introducing electric vehicle charging points.
A children’s log play area is also planned along with a removable shade sail canopy nearby.
It would require a reduction in parking density – providing 172 car parking spaces, 11 of which are disabled spaces and two electric points – and the inclusion of “safe pedestrian routes” throughout the site, with a boat/overflow parking area proposed.
This is a reduction of ten spaces from the current provision but improvement in disabled parking and electric charging points mitigates this.
The existing toilets will not be replaced but clad in timber to “improve the appearance of the dated exterior” a planning report adds.
Resident Madeline Capel spoke at the virtual meeting on Wednesday (June 10), saying she was supportive of the scheme but highlighted concerns about the flood risk where the play area will be based was much higher than the report stated.
Mrs. Capel also asked that planed fencing be amended to allow for bats that feed frequently in the area to do so safely as well as asking that the full toilet block be clad.
County councillor for the Havens Peter Morgan said: “I think it’s a great scheme, I think it’s needed.”
It was backed by the committee unanimously.
