Sir,
May I urgently express my personal concern at one aspect of a current planning proposal?
A pizza firm wishing to use the new premises on the former Delphi site on South Parade has proposed a large internally illuminated sign on the side that faces onto the Memorial Garden and cenotaph.
This seems to me brash and insensitive (and may to some feel disrespectful) to a treasured town space.
Any sign should be more modest and not illuminated. It is sadly usual for national retail chains coming to Tenby to ignore any local policies, preferences, building or town character in their initial applications for signage.
Internally illuminated signs are not allowed in the town centre.
Often chains erect the signs even before a refusal of permission can be issued and then have to take them down.
Many aspects of this building scheme were well designed and carried out; let’s not see a minor bit mess it up and let’s be able to welcome new business that understands what a lovely town this is and doesn’t just think it’s another distant bit of their revenue stream.
Harry Gardiner,
Tenby.
