Ahoy there! The pirates took over Narberth on Saturday as they searched for plunder at the annual summer carnival.
Mingling with Spanish dancers, Hawaiian girls, the Three Amigos, Romany Travellers, Bertie's Little Sweeties, and knights in shining armour, whether they were lorry-borne or on foot, they all made for a colourful sight in the carnival procession.
Thankfully, the rain held off for the parade and there were still sunny smiles all round as the carnival - the lively climax to Civic Week - burst into life.
Hundreds of people came from far and wide to clap and cheer on the eye-catching cavalcade, which had a police and fire brigade escort and featured a whole assortment of topical and imaginative floats and walking entrants, plus the Dyfed Army Cadet Force Corps of Drums band and the Grassroots Theatre Company from Bulawayo and their friends from Narberth-based Span Arts, who danced their way around the one-way circuit.
Carnival Queen Bobbie Evans, Rose Queen Bethan Richards, and Fairy Queen Isis Smith, and their attendants, added a touch of elegance to proceedings, while Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Eric Feetham, gave the festivities a civic salute from his chauffeur driven open-topped classic car. Set the unenviable task of choosing the winners were Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Trevor Hallett, and Mayor and Mayoress of Whitland, Clr. Con and Anne Harries.
