Sir, Re. the Blast from the Past picture in last week's paper. I recognised some of the names who played for the Narberth Grammar School soccer team, although I was in the school from 1944 (could have been 1943?). I had the same headmaster, Mr. Sam (Aberdare) Evans. I wondered how many of those were still in touch with each other? I rang Huw Howell, who had provided the photo, and he admitted that he knew the whereabouts of some, but hadn't seen most for 40 years or more. In the course of conversation, I found out that I had attended the old school at the same time as his sister, Helen, and we were in the same class. Helen now lives in Middlesex. I asked Huw had he thought of a reunion? The conversation triggered off the thoughts of a School Reunion again - yes, a School not a Class Reunion. In 15 years I've been involved in organising these reunions, five or maybe six times (not sure - old age catching up on me). We had a very successful one in July 2006. I have now taken up the challenge to organise the next one on Saturday, July 5, 2008 -an afternoon function at the Nantyffin, Llandissilio. It may seem a bit early, but these days people book up holidays etc, very much ahead. A number of former pupils failed to attend the last reunion because they had committed themselves to their holidays, in some cases, at least 10 months ahead. Others from Australia, America, Canada and other countries abroad like to be able to fit in the reunion with a visit back to the old country. Quite a number who attended and enjoyed the last reunion have already been in touch asking when the next reunion will take place? As mentioned above, it's a 'School' Reunion and anyone who attended it as the County Intermediate, the Grammar or the Secondary Mod can attend the reunion with partners if they should so wish as in previous years. Former teachers are also welcomed. The school closed in the early '80s, but we still have some former pupils who attended the school in the '30s on the books and they are keen to attend such occasions. By planning well ahead, I hope to have the daughters of two headmasters, the son of one headmaster, the son and daughter of a schoolmistress and the niece of another schoolmistress attending as former pupils. They could be attending from Spain, Canada and France. Invitations with various details of the function will be sent out, possibly, in the spring of 2008, but it would be good to hear from former pupils who are interested in attending the function and also to be informed of any former pupils who are no longer with us having joined in the great reunion in the Heavens. The information of the latter would save the embarrassment of sending invitations to addresses and upsetting relatives and families. Not being a computer buff, all the organising, correspondence, etc, is done by old fashioned methods, i.e. physically and mentally and it can be very time consuming.
