Local musician Huw Johns, known as the ‘Piano Man’ has been responsible for a significant donation being made to Tenby RNLI Lifeboats.

Huw, who has had a couple of worldwide streaming hits in the last six months in collaboration with drummer Big G, has played a number of fundraising gigs at the Evergreen Inn in Tenby and managed to raise the sum of £835.

Then a good friend of his, Jason Sallam who was aware of Huw’s efforts decided to donate the cash he had collected over several years of metal detection on local beaches, which amounted to an incredible £1,215!

Jason is a Tenby antiques dealer who is scheduled to appear later this year in a number of episodes of David Dickinson’s Real Deal TV show.

Huw’s fundraising also came to the attention of Steve Thurgood, the Charity Steward of Tenby Freemason’s Lodge, of which both Huw and Jason are members.

Steve quickly gained agreement from Lodge members to contribute a further £300 to the cause, which produced an impressive total donation of £2,350!

Huw and Steve met Tenby Lifeboat Operations Manager Carl Evans at the boathouse to present the £300 ‘cheque’ from Tenby Freemasons as part of the donation.

Carl thanked both parties for their contributions and referred to The Piano Man as “a legend”.

He said that as Tenby Lifeboat approaches it’s 175th Anniversary he was sure there would be opportunities to take up Huw’s kind offer of further fundraising performances.

Tenby Lifeboat is part of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and provides vital 24-hour lifesaving services around the South Pembrokeshire coast.

It has a total available crew of 53, of which 51 are volunteers. With the continuous hot weather in recent weeks It has so far been a very busy summer for them.
