AUGUST has been a bumper time for photography at Colby Gallery. The first half of the month saw a highly successful three-hander photographic exhibition in the 'Small Gallery'. Now for the remainder of the holiday season, talented Dave Marriott from Carew mounts his solo exhibition, 'Split Shift'.

The 'Shift' in the title refers to the changes of light at dawn and dusk, and Dave makes maximum use of them in his startlingly atmospheric landscapes - many of them taken in and around his own local village.

Dave says he has always enjoyed photography, but claims to have become 'serious' only since purchasing his first digital camera, which in turn, led him to joining Tenby Camera Club three years ago.

He claims that the 'constructive criticism' of other like-minded people has helped him enormously. Last year he enjoyed a successful fortnight at Colby Gallery as part of a group exhibition, where we saw, in addition to his landscapes, several subjects inspired by his two other main fields of interest, namely birds (feathered variety) and sport. Hence you are likely to see a cyclist shot at high speed (not literally) and totally in focus of course, next to a robin sitting Christmas-card-like on a frosted bough - these and a lot else besides.

As Dave says, he's always "willing to expand and try new things," which in this particular case turns out to be his own solo show!

NB. For those with young families, look out for a VIP visitor to the Woodland Gardens on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29. Peter Rabbit is planning a day out, and the National Trust staff will be doing lots of fun things to involve youngsters throughout the day to make your visit extra enjoyable, so bring the children, and what's more, bring the camera! (But please don't shoot Peter Rabbit).

'Split Shift' runs from August 22 to September 5, daily 10 am - 5 pm. Enquiries, please ring (01834) 814200.
