Tenby's Mayor has backed a project that would allow the town council to promote events in the resort through a smart phone app.

Members of the council received a presentation ahead of their meeting on Tuesday night from Lee Griffiths, one of the developers behind the 'Big Local App South West Wales', which aims to promote the 'shop local' message.

He explained that the project, which was preparing to launch in July, was looking to work with town councils and gain support, and that a number of businesses and organisations were already on board in the area, including everything from the likes of the Scarlets rugby team to Ffos Las racecourse, while the likes of Heatherton and the County Show had indicated that they'd like to get involved too.

Mr. Griffiths explained that the app would allow an organisation like the town council to continually upload contents on to its featured pages, allowing them to promote such events in the town as the Summer Spectacular, Boxing Day Swim, markets and other charity events. He said he hoped to get around 30 other businesses on board before holding a mini-launch for the app next month to create a buzz around the project.

He said that the 'Big Local App' had already worked successfully in other areas of the UK and he felt it would benefit Pembrokeshire too.

Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, gave her backing to the project and said that it sounded very worthwhile and interesting, and that the town council would now consult to consider their involvement with it.
