Philip Rice, from Cresselly, played at centre or on the wing for Narberth. But when he hung up his boots he continued to be an ardent supporter of the Otters at both home and away games.
Moses - as he was affectionately called by his friends - also helped the club in practical terms. Whenever volunteers were required to clear rubbish or do a little painting job, Moses was in front of the queue.
Phil passed away in May 2009 and he has been sadly missed. However, last Saturday, thanks to the sponsorship of Maurice Cole from 'The Quay' and Alasdair Mackenzie, about 40 friends gathered at the Lewis Lloyd Ground for Narberth's home game against Bridgend to honour and remember him.
Phil's wife Barbara and daughter Janet had travelled down from Newport Mon. for the occasion and glasses were raised to one of the nicest guys you would want to know.
'The Friends of Phil Rice' in the Folly Suite and the other main sponsor, the Ken Morgan Partnership, chose Otters' fullback Roger Davies as 'man of the match' in a pulsating match which ended in a draw and which was a credit to both teams. Phil would certainly have enjoyed the game.
