Pembroke Haven and District Autograss Club (PHD), along with the other clubs in the South Wales Autograss League (Carmarthen, Teifi, and Swansea), are the toast of the autograss world after round three of the British Autograss Series, held recently at their Castle Lloyd Circuit, near Red Roses.

Widely acclaimed as the best autograss event ever held, the event attracted thousands of spectators and well over 600 drivers from all over England, Wales and Ireland.

And to cap a brilliant weekend the PHD club also tasted great success on the track against Britain's best cars and drivers.

National champion, Phil Rogers, of Milford Haven, was a class of his own in his Millington powered special and remained unbeaten all weekend in his three heats and final. He now leads the class 9 British Autograss Series with two rounds to go.

In Class 1, Lee Pearce (Pembroke Dock), brought his Mini home to a fine second place, following his recent win in round two at Cwmdu, while in Class 8, Fishguard's Paul Jenkins produced one of the great drives of the weekend in his motor bike engined special to come within inches of winning the Class 8 final against the countries top cars.

In the Class 7 super saloons, Norman Mason (Narberth) was also enjoying home track advantage, as he guided his twin motor bike engined Peugeot to a fine third place in Sundays final, a result which moves him up to second place in the British series.

The PHD ladies were not to be outdone as Donna Forrest (Neyland) kept up her recent good form with a second place trophy in the ladies Class 2, and current ladies Class 7 national champion, Hiefena James (St. Clears) had to settle for runner-up after a great race in the Class 7 final.

In the ladies Class 4, Yvette Jackson, having only her second drive in Martin Collins' Mini pick-up claimed a good fourth place trophy.

All local motor sport fans were treated to a great two days racing.

The next race meeting to be held at the Castle Lloyd Circuit will be on Sunday, August 8, with an 11am start.

This comes a week after many of the club's drivers will be competing at the men's national finals in Stroud.
