A petition has been launched by residents and business people in St. George Street, St. Mary's Street and The Paragon, Tenby, objecting to the Three Mariners public house holding a public entertainment licence and extended hours of trading. "We have a petition objecting to the licence which has been signed by over 25 local residents and business people which we will be handing to the police and relevant authorities," said one of the concerned businessmen, Roger Bannister, of The Blue Dolphin Hotel. "We fully support Inspector Les Clark and Tenby Town Council in their objection to the renewal of the public entertainment licence at the pub." As reported in last week's issue, Pembrokeshire County Council's licensing sub-committee reduced the pub's opening hours when an application for a renewal of their public entertainment licence came before them. Police claimed that last year, the St. George Street establishment could be linked to more than 10 per cent of crime within the walled town. However, licensees Keith and Lisa May questioned the statistics police had used in evidence, and following the hearing have decided to appeal against the cut in opening hours.
