Sir

I feel I must write to correct the fallacious assertions made by Kate Telford in last week's Observer.

Firstly, I resent the imputation that I might not be a blue badge holder. I would not lie and claim that I was, were it untrue; I was displaying the badge on the car's fascia board on the day in question.

I had not 'parked in the middle of the bay'. I was attempting to park, but the representative of 'Carriages in the Park' was blocking my access to such an extent that I would have had to run over her toes to get into any part of the bay (had I been parked mid-bay, of course I would have moved forward - it's easier to drive out if you're at the front!). I abandoned the attempt and the debate when I saw that a conventional parking place had become vacant further down Tudor Square.

I had definitely been told that the horse was 'freaked out by the scaffolding' on the YBS building, which by no stretch of the imagination could be designated as 'overhead' where the carriage rides usually start. When I had done my quick shopping I stopped to query the advisability of using such a sensitive animal in a busy town.

It may seem surprising that two versions of the same incident could be so different, but the simple explanation is that Ms Telford was not present at the time.

Perhaps Ms Telford had a similar encounter with another driver?
