People have been going potty over at Pembroke Community Garden.

This season, a number of courses have been put on in the garden to introduce more people to the delights there.

In mid-September, potter Debbie Vines came along to deliver a course. The weather was dry and fine and the garden was a delightful back-drop to the fun that was had

The garden does not have electricity, but nevertheless, Debbie was able to show the potential of different ways, other than by a potter’s wheel, of making pottery. Soon the group of adults and children were getting stuck in! It was great fun and an extra dimension was given when Debbie invited the group to go along to her Neyland pottery to apply the glaze after the first firing of the pots was completed.

The group were all thrilled to see the pottery hardened and white, but even more delighted when it arrived after the second firing, glazed and colourful.

The garden is situated in Pembroke behind Foundry House. It is a burgage plot within the wall, so access is up a slope and the garden grades up the hill. It is usually open Thursdays, 10 am to 12.30 pm and 2-4.30 pm, but times will change as the season changes, so check the board outside.

Although the beauty of the flowers and produce is largely over, there are still jobs to be done - pruning, weeding, paths to complete, a second greenhouse to be moved to the garden and erected, a clay oven and barbecue to be built and a shed to be constructed. So do come and have a look and if you would like to help, please just come along and find out what is happening.

To end the season, there will be music from Jess Ward with Triskellion group, along with some folk dancing, apple pie and pumpkin soup for sale tomorrow (Saturday) between 12.30 and 3.30 pm weather permitting!
