Congratulations to Edward and Beatice Broom, of Pentlepoir, who will be celebrating 65 years of marriage on Monday. The couple, who live at Hawthorn Close, were married on April 21, 1943, at St. Mary's Church in Tenby. Beatrice is a native of Tenby and is the daughter of the Scottish golfer Tom Grant, who was the professional at Tenby Golf Club, while Edward hails from the Gabalfa area of Cardiff. The couple met while Tom was stationed at Pembroke Dock with the 48 Air-Sea Rescue Unit who came to Tenby to open up a base. Edward spent six years with the RAF and travelled overseas to the Middle East during the war, finishing up in Basra. While in Tenby, Beatrice worked for a land agent and values company based at Lexden Terrace in the town. After the war, Edward returned to his job working for Simms Motor Units, looking after their Swansea and West Wales branch. The couple have moved around quite a bit with Edward's profession - living in Carmarthen, Southampton, Birmingham and also London for 18 years. After Edward retired in 1978, he and Beatrice moved back to Tenby and lived at Jalna, North Cliff, for five years, before setting off again and living in Chepstow and Penarth for a few years. On their wedding anniversary in 1998, the couple returned to Pembrokeshire and moved to Pentlepoir, where they have lived ever since. For part of the couple's anniversary celebrations, relatives from Nottingham and Cardiff will be popping down to visit them.
