London-based acoustic quartet, Penniless Cove led by Tenby-born Phoebe Osborne will return to Pembrokeshire for a 'one off' gig at The Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth, on August 13. Penniless Cove perform dark quirky pop folk, songs that tell tales of everyday life... details that are often forgotten The band are known for drawing audiences their into an expansive yet intricate soundscape, a magical place where playful melodies meet melancholic lyrics and theatrical presentation.  Penniless Cove (named after a cobbled street leading to the sea in Tenby) was put together by Welsh singer Phoebe Osborne; her engaging songwriting and mischievous but haunting vocals are matched by a powerful command of the piano and offset by a dynamic live band which also features upright bass, cajon, strings and vocal harmonies. Phoebe, who is the daughter of Tenby hoteliers, Chris and Kath Osborne told us: "We have been focusing on recording and mixing our new album, which is due to be launched at the end of October. This is the third release for Penniless Cove, and marks a departure from our previous 'live' recordings, Out On A Roof (2012) and Trials Tubes and Tribulations (2011). "We recorded the piano, drums and percussion in a beautiful farm house in Ardley last year, sleeping under canvas and taking in the country side. The vocals and backing vocals came later back home in London's Purple Room Studios, leaving only the strings and final touches to be recorded. "On the run up to our album launch, we have played several live shows including a intimate and underground St. David's Day gig in Olivers Jazz bar, Greenwich and atmospheric Communion Bar in Camberwell earlier this month. "The next few months are going to be very exciting, with shooting the music video to our single 'I hope Your Coffee Burns', touring South Wales, including Brecon Jazz Festival, and we know that our Narberth gig will be a really special event, back home in Pembrokeshire." Tickets for the homecoming evening are £7, available only at the door, and the music starts at 8 pm. Meals can be ordered from The Plas Hyfryd on (01834) 869006.
