At the start of the January meeting of Pennar and Bufferland Community Association, Clr. Maureen Colgan said how pleased everyone was to see that Rev. Roger Hart had recuperated so well from his recent illness as to be able to join the group once more.
In reply, Roger thanked the members for their card wishing him a speedy recovery from his sudden illness.
Among matters discussed were the following:
Pennar and Bufferland Christmas decorative lights competition - the winners of the best decorated home were Philip and Ellen Lynch, of Ferry Road, Pennar. They would receive a voucher for £50 which could be used to enjoy meals and drinks for two in the Red Roses in High Street. Winners of the best decorated window were Bill and Dilys Cardy, of Nelson Street, Pennar. They would also receive a voucher for £50 which could be used for the enjoyment of meals and drinks for two at the Pennar Golf Club.
Speed checks on vehicles in sensitive areas of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock: It was reported that PCSOs have been seen checking vehicles with a speed camera in particularly speed sensitive areas, such as close to schools etc. A police officer was also in attendance to issue 'on the spot' summonses to any offending drivers.
Affordable housing development on the 'North of Imble Lane' site - phase one of the development for 39 dwellings was to be ready for occupation by October 2015. There had been some speculation about to whom the new tenancies would be granted. Clr. Tony Wilcox said that some of the one and two bedroom flats and bungalows may be given to people presently occupying three or four bedroom council or Housing Association properties, but now wished to 'downsize'.
Pembroke Dock bicentenary celebrations - Clr. Maureen Colgan announced that Pembroke Dock Town Council would be organising various festivities throughout the year 2014 as the year would mark the 200th anniversary of the inauguration of the town of Pembroke Dock. The council would be encouraging all kinds of organisations, whether large or small businesses in the area, secular and religious groups and the general public to join in to make this a really memorable year.
