A Carmarthenshire seaside community council has given a warning over the misuse of disposable barbecues on beaches.

Pendine Community Council shared: “The summer holidays are here, and that can only mean one thing…beach parking season is in full swing!

“Over the coming weeks, we will be aiming to open Pendine Beach every day, subject to - tidal and weather conditions; staffing availability.

“As always, safety comes first, so opening times may vary. We will post a daily schedule on our Facebook page as soon as conditions have been assessed and confirmed safe, so please keep an eye on our page before travelling.

“A polite reminder to all beach users - please follow staff instructions at all times. Our team are there to ensure everyone can enjoy the beach safely and to help operations run smoothly.

“And now for our annual plea...please leave no trace! It really isn't a big ask!

“If the bins are full, please set an example and take your rubbish home with you. Let's all do our bit to keep Pendine beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

“And whilst we're on the subject...disposable BBQs DO NOT belong in the sand or in bins!Sadly, someone recently decided that bins are fireproof. Spoiler alert: they are not!

“Even worse, burying disposable BBQs in the sand does NOT put them out. In fact, it can create a super-heated pit from hell which can remain dangerously hot for hours and could cause extremely serious burns and injuries to children, adults, dogs and wildlife.

“Please allow BBQs to cool completely and dispose of them responsibly — or even better, take them home with you.

“Let's all work together to keep Pendine Sands clean, safe and beautiful this summer. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you all to the beach over the holidays!”
