Pendine travelled to Whitland last Saturday with some trepidation having lost at home in June to the same team, who were last year's Division One league winners. However, on a fine day, they came away triumphant with a well-earned, but unexpected win. The match was played in very sporting manner from start to finish on a green in fine condition. Rink one saw skip Stewart King Thomas's rink against the mighty Colin Wynn with his son Phil at third and after being down 8-15 on the 13th end, Pendine came back to peel 18-18. Next door, rink two had David King Thomas's boys opposed by Steve Reese's lads, with the former's rink winning the first five ends to be ahead 7-0. This lead was maintained with some telling woods from third Eric Davies and ran out 21-12 winners. Rink three had Mal Evans's four against the formidable Glyndwr Thomas skip and here again Pendine got ahead by the sixth end and with all the rink performing well, they retained their lead to win 21-15. On rink four, Malcolm Thomas faced Alan Whitehouse's quartet, who went ahead early on and on the 18th end were 24-9 up, but Malcolm's lads won the last three ends to pick up five shots, which at the end turned out to be very important. Rink scores (Pendine first) were as follows: C. Thomas, P. Penfold, M. Dix, S. King Thomas 18; L. Price, J. Rees, P. Wynn, C. Wynn 18. D. Stewart, D. Roberts, E. Davies, D. King Thomas 21; N. Davies, P. Wills, T. Thomas, S. Reese 12. N. Thomas, C. Rance, A. Edwards, M. Evans 21; J. Seeley, S. Webster, L. Price, G. Thomas 15. D. James, J. Gronow, G. Hale, M. Thomas 14; G. Davies, H. Nicholas, R. Thomas, A. Whitehouse 24.
