pendine 95 (13 pts) saundersfoot 47 (1)
On Sunday last, Pendine were home to Saundersfoot and on a wet and misty afternoon they adapted better to the green and the conditions than their more illustrious neighbours. On rink one, David King Thomas's rink was up against John Dugmore's unit. Oliver Stephens had a right royal battle up front with the experienced George Cavell, with the former just edging it. Paul Leeds and Roger Gosnold played some crucial woods, as did both skips, and at the halfway mark Pendine were up 14 to 10 and went on to win 25 to 13. Rink two saw Stewart King Thomas's boys up against Paul Blaney's lads, whose lead was the returning Alan Brain and well challenged by young Robin Hawker. This was a tight affair, with Blaney getting three on the last end to peel 17-17. Rink three was skipped by Mal Evans for Pendine against John Jenkins's rink, the former being 10 to five at halfway and powering away to a 24 shots to nine shots victory. Last but not least was the Llanybri outfit skipped by Malcolm (NFU) Thomas facing the county president - Donny Poole's four, but they were given no quarter and had a torrid time from Roger (Farmer) Davies, Eric Davies and Geoff Hale, winning by 29 shots to eight. Rink scores (Pendine names first) were as follows: O. Stephens, P. Leeds, R. Gosnold, D. King Thomas 25; G. Cavell, G. Spiller, G. Thornton, J. Dugmore 13. R. Hawker, G. Hawker, M. Dix, S. King Thomas 17; A. Brain, B. Deeley, B. Lee, P. Blaney 17. D. Stewart, D. Roberts, A. Edwards, M. Evans 24; R. Kennion, N. Ruff, A. Brace, J. Jenkins 9. R. Davies, E. Davies, G. Hale, M. Thomas 29; D. Stokes, K. Rowland, S. Dick, D. Poole 8.
pendine ladies open TWO-wood TRIPLES
Held last week on a fine sunny day with 30 ladies triples entered from around the county (90 competitors in all) in a round robin format, this competition ended up with the final taking place between a Pendine triple of Gaynor Wilson, Helen Evans and Gill Cobb and a Haverfordwest triple of Mary Codd, Mary Richards and Wynn Howells, the latter being the ultimate winners. Everyone enjoyed a running buffet all day between games. An excellent day for Pendine Club.
