Penally VC School can now call itself a health promoting school after being awarded its third Pembrokeshire Health Promotion leaf shield recently by health promotion officer, Mrs. Lynne Perry.

The small innovative school achieved this third phase award after successfully completing three final health promoting targets last term.

The school has completed various activities and tasks since starting the scheme in autumn 2000 covering a range of action areas related to particular key health issues.

"All of these healthy and environmental aspects are now embedded within the school curriculum," said acting head, Mr. Graham Doney.

"We have found pupils more caring and thoughtful about the environment since starting the scheme and they are more aware of the many dangers and risks that exist to the health and well-being of themselves and others.

"They also understand more about conservation and sustainability and help monitor energy use in school by ensuring taps and lights are turned off when not in use and waste paper is recycled.

"We are very proud of this achievement. It illustrates our positive commitment to the future through the hard work of current and former pupils."
