Police are investigating a road tragedy in South Pembrokeshire.

A 20-year-old man was killed when the car in which he was travelling collided with a parked vehicle on Penally bypass at approximately 3.15 pm on Wednesday.

"The circumstances are that a blue Peugeot 106 was travelling towards Tenby, when it appears to have lost control and collided with a stationary vehicle parked at the roadside," said a police spokesman yesterday (Thursday).

As a result, a passenger in the Peugeot received fatal injuries. Understood to be from the Neath area, his next of kin have been informed.

The driver, meanwhile, believed to be a local man, was airlifted to the Heath Hospital, Cardiff, where he was described, yesterday, as being in a serious, but stable condition.

At the time of going to press, no further details had been released, although the road was closed for more than two hours while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and in particular would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the Peugeot travelling in the area prior to the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Justin Williams, of Pembrokeshire roads policing department, Haverfordwest, on 101.
