Penally School children will dress up in traditional Japanese costume and carry Japanese-style banners that they have made in class for the Tenby Arts Festival Grand Parade tomorrow (Saturday), starting at 11 am from the De Valence Pavilion.
"The school children are immersing themselves in Japanese culture this term," said headteacher Mrs. Mathias.
"We have a Japanese teaching assistant, Yukako Najamura, until Christmas and the children are learning about Japanese culture and everyday life. We also have a theme this term about celebration, so attending the grand parade dressed in Japanese culture seemed only natural to marry the two as well as support a very good event.
"We will also be taking the children to the Japan Day exhibitions and demonstrations at the De Valence Pavilion on September 26, where Ms. Nakamura will be helping for the day."
Yukako Nakamura originally comes from Nagasaki on the southern island of Kyushu. Yukako studied design at university and worked for a design company in Tokyo before deciding to come to the UK on an international internship programme. Her hobbies include tea ceremony, shodo (brush and ink writing) and origami.
"I hope Pembrokeshire people and children will enjoy learning about Japanese culture. I look forward to meeting many people during the Arts Festival."
