Penally is now looking forward to its annual horticultural and craft show on Saturday, August 4, in the village hall.
It is always a good village day in the life of Penally and well worth a visit, either to view or exhibit. There are also children's classes with cash prizes, and a photographic competition with a cash prize of £25.
So come on, the show, is open to everyone and schedules can be obtained from the Village Stores and some local garden centres. Doors open 9 and and exhibits must be staged by 10.30 am. Hall closed for judging at 11 am and open for public viewing at 2.30 pm.
The village hall committee have had a busy time lately. In June, the Jubilee was celebrated with a Jubilee 'Street Style' party in the village hall with '50s style refreshments. It was a full house and seemed to be enjoyed by all who attended. Thanks must go to the community council who helped with this project and to David, Sue and William in the Village Stores who always support the village.
More recently, a new venture, Penally Open Gardens was organised and all was running smoothly until the day, then down came the rain in torrents! However, a few garden enthusiasts, (even from as far as north of the county) braved the rain and visited some gardens and enjoyed cream teas in the village hall. So grateful thanks to them.
We did make some money for the hall and the church, but not as much as we would have liked. However, we have not been deterred and will try again next year. Thanks must also be extended to all the people who spent a great deal of time sprucing up their lovely gardens and the lovely ladies in the hall, who served the teas and looked after the art and craft exhibits.
