Penally Mothers' Union held their May meeting last week. The office was taken by Mrs. Dorothy Durdin. The speaker, Miss Pamela Lewis, was introduced by the branch leader, Mrs. V. Paley. Miss Lewis described how she had held a variety of jobs - teacher, carer, social worker. She is currently employed by Age Concern Pembs. Age Concern are currently reorganising themselves in the approach in dealing with those in need of help, covering, listening, respect, views of the client, and providing information on available benefits. It was interesting to hear how Attendance Allowance is available to all over 65 years, and can be used to buy-in care for one's own need. An odd job service is available on request, including light bulb replacement and putting in aids, as well as a befriending phone call to a housebound person and a return from hospital to home service for shopping and prescriptions - this is available for three weeks on returning home. Penally members showed much interest in all they had learned. Mrs. Diana Lunn gave a very warm vote of thanks to Miss Lewis on behalf of all present. The tea hostess was Mrs. Gill Dashfield.
